The Greene County basketball teams are still looking for their first win of the 2023/24 season. Both teams struggle to put points on the scoreboard, unable to keep up with their opponents.
The teams fell to Nevada, West Marshall and Kuemper Catholic last week.
Greene County was scheduled to play on Tuesday at Saydel High School. Their next game will be Jan. 5 at home against Perry.
Ram girls – On Tuesday, Dec. 12, the Rams hosted Nevada and fell 55-16. There was a bit of hope for the Rams when they trailed by only four points at the end of the first quarter, but the Cubs broke open the gap in the second, putting 24 points on the board while the Rams scored five.
Greene County game leaders were Makenna Ebersole, who scored eight points and had seven rebounds, and Emma Shipley and Alaina Heard who had two assists each.

The Rams were at home again on Friday, this time facing West Marshall and falling 65-19. The Rams had trouble finding the basket, scoring only nine points in the first half and 10 in the second.
Ebersole scored six points with six rebounds. Shipley and Sara Morlan each tallied five points. Shipley and Kaycee Pittman were credited with two assists each. The Rams saw 28 turnovers and 11 fouls in the game.

Another home game was played Saturday against Kuemper Catholic, the Rams falling 63-21. The Knights led 37-8 at the end of the first half. Morlan scored eight Rams points with Pittman tossing in five and Shipley four. Ebersole grabbed five rebounds with Shipley and Pittman each credited with four.

Ram boys – The Rams hosted the Nevada Cubs Dec. 12 with Greene County falling 72-42 after putting 17 points on the board in the first half and 25 in the second.
Nathan Behne and Nick Madsen scored eight points each. Broc Stream was credited with six rebounds, Behne and Isaac Carman with four each. Brynley Ruzicka led in assists with two.
Nevada 72 – Greene Co. 42

On Friday, the Rams were back on their home court to face West Marshall with the Rams taking a 66-31 loss against the Trojans. Greene County trailed 36-13 at the end of the first half, with not much improvement in the second.
Ruzicka led the scoreboard for the Rams, netting 13 points in the game. Trey Schilling and Carman grabbed five rebounds and two steals each with Nathan Towers leading in assists with three.

The Rams had another chance on the court on Saturday when they hosted the Kuemper Catholic Knights, falling 87-49.
The Rams trailed 51-26 at the half and were unable to make any headway in the second. Seventeen turnovers and 16 fouls didn’t help the team. The Knights saw only five turnovers and eight fouls.
Ruzicka had a 14 point night, making four of eight attempted three point shots. Carman led in rebounds with five with Chisholm assisting three times.
